Risk it until you Break!

Risk management is perhaps the most important tool in a Tactician’s belt when it comes to Clan conflict. Whether through sheer willpower or some mystical means, a Tactician is able to levy a personal stock of Swagger in order to impact the actions and outcomes of actions on the battlefield. By completing Risky actions, collecting Aether Fonts, completing Side Quests and more, the Tactician is able to bank that Swagger in order to spend it later to Break actions and alter their overall chances of success.

The amount of Swagger a Tactician can bank is finite, and knowing when to spend it rather than holding on to it marks the difference between a good Tactician and a great one!

Deep Customization!

Riskbreaker’s Gambit has been designed from the ground up with two primary axioms; ease of play and depth of mechanics, which has been reflected in many facets of the game but no more than in Unit and Clan Customization.

The game features twenty-two Paths for your Units to follow, the abilities of which can be mixed and matched to create unique combatants suitable for all manner of engagements!

Each Tactician is encouraged to adopt a Role, which affords them strategic abilities as well as a powerful and Swagger-consumptive Gambit as well as Role-specific Side Quests, all of which inform a Tactician’s place on the battlefield and help steer them toward victory!

Relics and Items!

In addition to the myriad of weapons and armour present for Clan warriors to utilize on the battlefield, each of which presents its own advantages in combat, there are also Relics for units to equip themselves with. Infused with mystical power, even the most basic Relic can spell a significant change to a unit’s capabilities in combat. 

Further, there is an entire suite of Items a Clan warrior can utilize in combat, from basic health restoring tonics to insidious poisons and magically-infused treatments to give one an edge.

 

The Aspect Cycle!

All abilities used by Clan warriors and monsters alike adhere to the Aspect Cycle and are referred to as Aspected in some manner when referred to. 

The Aspect Cycle progresses as follows:

“Fire thaws Ice, Ice chills Wind, Wind weathers Earth, Earth absorbs Shock, Shock charges Water, Water douses Fire.”

Light and Dark are a special case, as they directly oppose one another.

A Scenario for Every Occasion!

Matches of Riskbreaker’s Gambit are played according to three distinct varieties, each of which holds a number of subcategories.

The first type of scenario is the Melee Scenario, in which two or more Tacticians select a number of Units to field with the aim of achieving victory over their opponents, which include not only enemy Tacticians but various monsters!. From the Assassination Scenario to a Skirmish, there are eleven distinct Melee Scenario types in which your Clans may compete!

The second type of scenario is the Rendezvous Scenario, in which one or more Tacticians square off against monstrous forces that aim to prevent them from completing their goals. From Artefact Retrieval to Stronghold Defense, test your Clan’s might and mettle against the worst the realm has to offer in one of six Rendezvous Scenario types!

Finally, there is the Narrative Campaign, in which Melee and Rendezvous Scenarios are blended with a hefty dash of lore in order to provide a captivating and exciting experience for any Tactician. One such Narrative Campaign, called “Corruption’s Coil”, is provided within the text of the Riskbreaker’s Gambit core rulebook!

 

Give “Intelligent” Monsters a Nudge!

Each species of monster has been thoroughly studied by the realm’s most learned scholars and a treatise called the Worstiary assembled to make Clan conflict more approachable for Tacticians of any skill level.

To that end, every species and power level of monster possesses its own hexagon-shaped FLOWER diagram, which helps to inform Tacticians on the actions a monster will take, when coupled with observed behaviours and general tactics.

Further, Tacticians with a good grasp of their inherent Swagger can Nudge any monster about to take an action into another potential path, altering the course of destiny and setting fate within a path more suitable to their ends!
